Gaming with wearable technology to stimulate foot health – usability assessment

Objective: To evaluate the usability of digital games controlled by sensors attached to a sandal and analyze the relevant aspects for their use in recovering and maintaining the participants' level of physical activity. Method: A study of the main exercises for foot rehabilitation was carried out and two games controlled by the sandal were developed for dorsiflexion and plantar flexion exercises. The tests were carried out with 20 participants. Results: Analysis of game 1 log files showed a difference in the expected signals for dorsiflexion. Foot video analysis showed that foot rest was classified as dorsiflexion in the game. Conclusion: Games controlled by wearables are a promising strategy for therapeutic use of the lower limb and can be useful for therapists, promoting the acquisition of knowledge about the execution of exercises by patients.
